OY - Orienteer of the Year is a competition contested by members from both the Marlborough and Nelson clubs. You must be a club member to qualify for points. If you are not a club member you can still participate. While the standard is to go solo we do permit teams (women, families etc) but you will not qualify for points.

This is the third OY for 2025. Venue/map is the Bastion, Riverlands.

The start window is 10:00 - 12:00. Course closure 14:00.

There will be four different difficulty levels to choose from: White, Yellow, Orange and Red. Within the Red level, there will be three different lengths. More detailed information regarding the courses will be published closer to the event.

Course planner - Stephen Bradley. Controller - Mondo

SportIdent (SI) will be used. SI dibbers are available - Free for Members, $5 for non-Members.

No dogs. Not even in your vehicles.

If entering under a Family Membership or Family Non-member the person completing the entry/registration needs to click on the Member Family (if a member of an Orienteering Club) otherwise use the Non-Member Family option. Select the course that you are going to do then once you have completed your entry then Save and Add another person then use the Member Family free (or Non-Member Family free) in the drop down box option for adding other family members. It doesn't matter if they are teaming up with you or not.

Then select the course that they are going to do - even if it is the same course as you but not doing it with you. If you are joining someone else from another Family or another person who has/hasn't club membership then we recommend that they do their own entry but mention that they are joining you in a team in the Additional Info box (and you do the same) so we can cross reference.

The same process can be used if you would like to the event as a team. Use the Member Senior or Senior Non-member or Member Junior or Junior Non-member options. Select the course that you are going to do then once you have completed your entry then Save and Add another person using the Member Senior or Senior Non-member or Member Junior or Junior Non-member options.

Anyone not competing together in a team or not coming along as a Family should be entering using the Senior or Junior options.

Note that there isn't a category for teams in the OY. It is still a good opportunity to learn, practice  and gain more skills.
